Normal role description: A nuclear protein that is invovled with stress fibre formation, sacromere maintanence and formation of microfibrils in sacromeres. It induces microspike in vivo and has also been implicated in actin polymerization and cell adhesion. It has been found to be implicated in treatment related acute non lymphoblastic leukemia by a translocation event to the myeloid/lymphoid leukemia gene.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Sanger had no report of this gene
