Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: MLTK
Gene Name: MLTK
Protein Full Name: Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase MLT
Alias: AZK; EC 2.7.11.25; HCCS-4; Mixed lineage kinase-related kinase; MLK-like mitogen-activated protein triple kinase; MRK-beta; Sterile alpha motif and leucine zipper containing kinase AZK
Mass (Da): 91181
Number AA: 800
UniProt ID: Q9NYL2
Locus ID: 51776
COSMIC ID: MLTK
Gene location on chromosome: 2q24.2
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 20017
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.51
Normal role description: Stress activated and proapoptotic member of the MAPKKK family. Regulates the JNK and p38 pathways. Involved in regulation of S and G2 cell cycle checkpoints by direct phosphorylation of CHEK2. MLTK Isoform 1 causes cell shrinkage and disruption of actin stress fibers and phosphorylates histone H3 (Ser-28). It was suggested to play a role in cell transformation and oncogenesis.
