Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: RHOBTB2
Gene Name: RHOBTB2
Protein Full Name: Rho-related BTB domain-containing protein 2
Alias: Deleted in breast cancer 2 gene protein;p83
Mass (Da): 82626
Number AA: 727
UniProt ID: Q9BYZ6
Locus ID: 23221
COSMIC ID: RHOBTB2
Gene location on chromosome: 8p21.3
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19995
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.61
Gene undergoes hypermethylation: Bladder cancer
Normal role description: RHOBTB2 is a monomeric GTPase from the Rho family that functions as an adapter protein for cullin-3, a ubiquitin E3 ligase necessary for mitotic cell division. Homozygous deletions of the gene have been seen in breast cancer tumours, and it is thus considered a candidate tumour suppressor. It has also been found to inhibit the growth and metastasis of certain subsets of breast cancer.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Only 2 ovarian cancer samples were included in Sanger COSMIC. 1/200 lung cancer samples were also mutated.
