Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Number AA: 234
UniProt ID: Q9980
Locus ID: 4824
COSMIC ID: NKX3-1

Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.22
Normal role description: NKX3-1 is a transcription factor that preferentially binds to the consensus sequence: 5'-TAAGT[AG]-3', and act as a repressor. NKX3-1 is thought to be putative prostate tumour suppressor that is expressed in a largely prostate-specific and androgen-regulated manner. Downregulation or complete loss of NKX3-1 expression is a common in prostate carcinomas and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia.
