Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: CSRNP1
Gene Name: CSRNP1
Protein Full Name: Cysteine/serine-rich nuclear protein 1
Alias: Axin-1 up-regulated gene 1 protein;Protein URAX1;TGF-beta-induced apoptosis protein 3
Mass (Da): 63522
Number AA: 589
UniProt ID: Q96S65
Locus ID: 64651
COSMIC ID: CSRNP1
Gene location on chromosome: 3p2
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19717
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.45
Normal role description: This protein binds to the consensus sequence 5'-AGAGTG-3' and has transcriptional activator activity; its is induced in response to elevated levels of axin -- a tumour suppressor. CSRNP1 may also have tumour suppressor activity. Mutation in this gene have been associated with ovarian and skin cancer.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Binds to the consensus sequence 5'-AGAGTG-3' and has transcriptional activator activity By similarity. May have a tumor-suppressor function. May play a role in apoptosis.  Frequently down-regulated in lung, kidney, liver and colon cancers compared with their corresponding normal tissues.
