Normal role description: ELMO1 is an evolutionarily conserved protein involved in the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells and cell motility through cytoskeletal rearrangements. Other functions may include activation of Rac/Rho GTPases and/or enhancement of DOCK1, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor. Increased expression of this gene has been found to promote glioma cell invasion.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: no entry in AGO
