Normal role description: WWC1 is regulatory protein found to interact many proteins through WW domains. WWC1 interacts with the protein kinase M zeta (PKM-zeta) isoform of Protein kinase C zeta. This protein may also have a role in organ development through regulating the hippo signalling pathway. WWC1 promotes phosphorylation of hippo pathway effectors LATS1/LATS2. WWC1 has been found to be expressed in breast cancer cell lines. WWC1 may mediate estrogen receptor transactivation in cancer by recruit to histone H3.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Less than 3% mutations in breast.
