Normal role description: PTPRO is a protein tyrosine phosphatase that plays a role in regulating glomerular pressure/filtration rate. It may also regulate osteoclast production and activity, inhibition of cell proliferation and facilitation of apoptosis and therefore may be regarded as a tumour suppressor. Overexpression inhibited anchorage-independent growth, delayed cell cycle progression and increased susceptibility to apoptosis. Decreased expression has been observed in several cancers.
