Normal role description: MAPRE1 is a microtubule associated protein required for regulating microtubule dynamics. MAPRE1 specifically stabilizes microtubule length and growth during mitosis. MAPRE1 can also position and maintain mitotic spindles assemblies as well as position growing microtubules chains to the kinetochore. MAPRE1 may have a role in cancer development but no mutations in this gene has been observed in any cancers. Increased transcription of MAPRE1 was observed in meduloblastoma. MAPRE1 may also have a role in colon cancer in its interaction with a truncated form of Adenomatous Polyposis Coli (APC), a tumour suppressor protein.
