Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PRDX1
Gene Name: PRDX1
Protein Full Name: Peroxiredoxin-1
Alias: Natural killer cell-enhancing factor A;Proliferation-associated gene protein;Thioredoxin peroxidase 2;Thioredoxin-dependent peroxide reductase 2
Mass (Da): 22110
Number AA: 199
UniProt ID: Q06830
Locus ID: 5052
COSMIC ID: PRDX1
Gene location on chromosome: 1p34.1
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19626
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.16
Normal role description: PRDX1 is involved in reduction of hydrogen peroxide and alkyl hydroperoxides. It may also be involved in cell proliferation pathways and regulation of postmitotic motor neuron differentiation. Loss of PRDX1 in mice leads to oncogenesis in many organs due to damage of hydrogen peroxides and other damaging agents.
