Normal role description: MMP14 is a membrane-bound metalloprotease that is involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix. It appears to be able to trigger tumour invasion by specifically activating progelatinase A (MMP2) on the tumour cell surface. Overexpression may also be playing a role in the activation of the ERK pathway.
