Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: LIFR
Gene Name: LIFR
Protein Full Name: Leukemia inhibitory factor receptor
Alias: CD118; leukemia inhibitory factor receptor alpha; LIF-R
Mass (Da): 123743
Number AA: 1097
UniProt ID: P42702
Locus ID: 3977
COSMIC ID: LIFR
Gene location on chromosome: 5p13.1
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 20327
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.31
Deregulated in translocations: t(5;8)(p13;q12): PLAG1-LIFR in pleiomorphic adenomas
Normal role description: Forms heterodimeric receptors with IL6ST. The soluble form inhibits the biological activity of LIF by blocking its binding to receptors on target cells. Signal transduction activates JAK/STAT and MAPK pathways. Expressed in apncreatic carcinoma and pituitary adenomas. Decreased levels of LIFR in neuroblastoma. Associated with chemosensitivity in glioblastoma multiforme.
