Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: DDIT3
Gene Name: DDIT3
Protein Full Name: DNA damage-inducible transcript 3 protein
Alias: C/EBP-homologous protein;C/EBP-homologous protein 10;Growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible protein GADD153
Mass (Da): 19175
Number AA: 169
UniProt ID: P35638
Locus ID: 1649
COSMIC ID: DDIT3
Gene location on chromosome: 12q13.1-q13.2
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 20327
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.22
Deregulated in translocations: t(12;16)(q13;p11) FUS/DDIT3; t(12;22)(q13;q12) EWS/DDIT3
Normal role description: Inhibits the DNA-binding activity of C/EBP and LAP by forming heterodimers that cannot bind DNA. DDIT3 promotes adipogenesis, erythropoiesis apoptosis, and is involved in the endoplasmic reticulum stress response. Decreasing expression related to malignant transformation of nevi to melanomas. Mechanism of oncogensis with chimeric proteins could be mediated by loss of function of wild-type DDIT3.
