Deregulated in translocations: Childhood pre-B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (4%), Inversion Event observed with E2A/TCF3, no protein product was observed, may not be a translocation.
Normal role description: TFPT is a regulatory protein found to promote apoptosis and cause cell cycle arrest TFPT could promote apoptosis through activation of caspase 9 and p53 while directly interacting Cdc2/CDK1 to inhibit mitosis. TFPT function is regulated by accessory factors including Arc and Par-4. The TFPT gene locus can participate in an inversion event with TCF3 was has been implicated in pre-B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. No observable protein product could be detected and thus may result in a deletion of TFPT. TFPT may function as a tumour suppressor protein in cancer.
