Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PFN1
Gene Name: PFN1
Protein Full Name: Profilin-1
Alias: PRO1; PROF1; Profilin I
Mass (Da): 15054
Number AA: 140
UniProt ID: P07737
Locus ID: 5216
COSMIC ID: PFN1
Gene location on chromosome: 17p13.3
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.07
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Binds to actin and affects the structure of the cytoskeleton. At high concentrations, profilin prevents the polymerization of actin, whereas it enhances it at low concentrations. By binding to PIP2, it inhibits the formation of IP3 and DG. Inhibits androgen receptor (AR) and HTT aggregation and binding of G-actin is essential for its inhibition of AR.
