Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: TFF1
Gene Name: TFF1
Protein Full Name: Trefoil factor 1
Alias: Breast cancer estrogen-inducible protein;PNR-2;Polypeptide P1.A;Protein pS2
Mass (Da): 9150
Number AA: 84
UniProt ID: P04155
Locus ID: 7031
COSMIC ID: TFF1
Gene location on chromosome: 21q22.3
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.11
Normal role description: TFF1 is expressed on normal gastrointestinal mucosal cells. The normal physiological role of TFF1 is unclear but may be related to mucosal integrity and innate immunity. This protein expression is lost in gastic tumors. Conversely, TFF1 is strongly expressed in breast cancer cells but absent from normal breast tissue. TFF1 is estrogen-dependent in the breast cancer system. Given that specific functional details of TFF1 are known, it is difficult to speculate on its function in oncogenesis.
