Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: CTNND1
Gene Name: CTNND1
Protein Full Name: Catenin delta-1
Alias: Cadherin-associated Src substrate; CAS; CATNS; CTD1; CTND1; KIAA0384; p120 catenin
Mass (Da): 108170
Number AA: 968
UniProt ID: O60716
Locus ID: 1500
COSMIC ID: CTNND1
Gene location on chromosome: 11q12.1
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: MIXED
Number of cancer specimens: 19851
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.9
Normal role description: Binds catenins and thereby contributes to stabilization of adherens junctions. Is involved in rearrangement of actin cytoskeleton through regulation of Rho family members. Stabilizes E-Cadherin, a tumour suppressor and may be further involved in tumour and metastasis suppression. Loss or downregulation of expression of p120 is often found in various types of cancers. May interact with transcriptional repressor Kaiso in the Wnt-pathway (hyperactive in colon cancer) and was suggested to be required in anchor-independet growth.
