Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: NUAK1
Gene Name: NUAK1
Protein Full Name: NUAK family SNF1-like kinase 1
Alias: AMP-activated protein kinase family member 5; ARK5; EC 2.7.11.1; KIAA053; KIAA0537; Kinase NuaK1; NUAK family, SNF1-like kinase, 1; NUAK2; Probable KIAA0537
Mass (Da): 74305
Number AA: 661
UniProt ID: O60285
Locus ID: 9891
COSMIC ID: NUAK1
Gene location on chromosome: 12q23.3
Number of cancer specimens: 19535
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.8
Normal role description: NUAK1 is a protein-serine/threonine kinase. Involved in tolerance to glucose starvation. Phosphorylates ATM. Suppresses Fas-induced apoptosis by phosphorylation of CASP6, thus suppressing the activation of the caspase and the subsequent cleavage of CFLAR.
