Normal role description: BUB1 is a protein-serine/threonine kinase and is a checkpoint protein that regulates mitotic spindle formation. It is a key protein in the formation of centromeres. It is thus the key regulator of metaphase-to-anaphase progression. Loss of function of the BUB1 gene results in abnormal propagation of genetic material during mitosis.
