Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: SLC9A3R1
Gene Name: SLC9A3R1
Protein Full Name: Na(+)/H(+) exchange regulatory cofactor NHE-RF1
Alias: EBP50; Ezrin-radixin-moesin binding phosphoprotein-50; NHERF1; NHERF-1; Similar to solute carrier family 9 (Sodium/hydrogen exchanger), isoform 3 regulatory factor 1; Solute carrier family 9 (sodium/hydrogen exchanger) member 3 regulator 1; Solute carrier family 9 (Sodium/hydrogen exchanger), isoform 3 regulatory factor 1
Mass (Da): 38868
Number AA: 358
UniProt ID: O14745
Locus ID: 9368
COSMIC ID: SLC9A3R1
Gene location on chromosome: 17q25.1
Cancer protein type: OP/TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: MIXED
Number of cancer specimens: 19745
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.14
Normal role description: Connects plasma membrane proteins with members of the ezrin/moesin/radixin family and links them to the actin cytoskeleton. It is neccessary for recycling of ADRB2 after internalization and phosphorylation and inhibition of SLC9A3. Induced by estrogen. Depending on its localization (membrane vs cytoplasm) it may either act as a tumour suppressor or as an oncogene.
